The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has a policy whereby you can give staff a non-cash gift of $500 or less, tax free, such as a Downtown Gift Card. The Gift Card has to be loaded with value and can only be used to purchase goods or services from a specified group of businesses and cannot be converted to cash. There is a requirement for a log of Gift Card information to be kept including the type, amount, date and reason the Gift Card was provided and where it can be spent.
