Tecumseh switches paper program for high tech Gift Card

The town of Tecumseh is upgrading its paper Tecumseh Dollars for a modern Gift Card as part of its mission to make local shopping easy.

Backed by the Town of Tecumseh Business Improvement Area (TOTBIA), the new Tecumseh Dollars Gift Card can be spent with participating restaurants, stores and venues locally.

Known as ‘The Great Mallternative’ for its diverse range of food establishments and variety of local businesses spanning fashion, jewellery plus regular events, TOTBIA hopes the new Tecumseh Dollars Gift Card will lock even more dollars into the town.

Leo Demarce is the Chair of TOTBIA and the owner of Sage Salon + Spa in Blackie’s Corner and said the new Gift Card will build on the success of the paper system:

“Our Tecumseh Dollars were popular but could only be purchased in $20 or $50 denominations. They tended to get spent with larger stores and many smaller businesses missed out. Businesses also had to gather the paper dollars and have them converted into cash or check by TOTBIA, which was an extra job for them.”

Leo adds: “The new Tecumseh Dollars Gift Card is available in amounts from $10 through to $500, and as people spend the Gift Card, the balance is automatically updated and businesses get paid quickly, making it really easy for customers using the card, and businesses to accept. With our new Gift Card, we’re spreading out the benefits of shop local right across the town.”

TOTBIA also plans to use their new Tecumseh Dollars Gift Card as prizes within its events and activities. The Tecumseh Dollars Gift Card is available to buy online and in person from the TOTBIA office on Tecumseh Road.

The technology for the Tecumseh Dollars Gift Card is provided by fintech Miconex in association with international payments technology solutions provider EML Payments.  Miconex operates its Downtown Gift Card concept across Canada.

The Tecumseh Dollars Gift Card is issued by Peoples Trust Company, part of Peoples Group. Card funds are not insured by the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) or any other government deposit insurer or agency. Funds do not expire, are non-reloadable and have no cash access.
