Downtown Brockville has upgraded its popular paper gift certificate for a modern Gift Card system.
The Downtown Brockville Gift Card can be used at participating retail, hospitality, accommodation and services businesses right across the Downtown area.
The Downtown Brockville Business Improvement Area (BIA) is leading the initiative. Meg Brazeau, Interim Executive Director at Downtown Brockville BIA said the new Gift Card will be easier for both customers and businesses:
“Our gift certificate was successful but it was a manual system that had its problems. You couldn’t carry a balance on the certificate and so had to use the whole gift certificate in a single store. Businesses then had to send the certificate to us to get reimbursed. The new Downtown Brockville Gift Card can be used with all participating businesses with the balance automatically updated, and merchants get paid quickly. The data insights will be incredibly valuable too.”
“The reality is that local businesses still need our support,” Meg adds. “The Downtown Brockville Gift Card is a way that residents, employers and tourists can make a tangible investment in our community, locking dollars in locally.”
A business set to accept the new Downtown Brockville Gift Card is women’s clothing and accessory boutique, Echo Clothing Company. Owner Lynn Libbos believes the new Gift Card will help small businesses to survive, commenting:
“Echo Clothing has grown from a tween store in a small boutique, to our current 2400 square feet on Brockville’s Main Street. Our mission is affordable fashion forward clothing with personalized customer service to build happy repeat customers. The gift certificates generated new customers to the store, who would become repeat customers.”
“Brockville has so much to offer but if people don’t spend their money here, businesses will close,” adds Lynn. “When businesses give back to the community, and when the community supports its businesses, then the generosity will come back ten-fold. It is the only way that small businesses can survive and grow. The new Downtown Brockville Gift Card is a community initiative that is a celebration of all that we have here in Brockville.”
Another King Street business set to accept the new Downtown Brockville Gift Card is Shoppers Drug Mart. Hany Hanna has owned and operated Shoppers Drug Mart for over a year and said:
“Utilizing the Gift Card program at our location brings us pride. We have made some long-time standing customers using this program and feel it is beneficial.”
Brockville business Dependable Vacuum has been established on Apple Street for almost 40 years. Owner Barry Fortington said the new Downtown Brockville Gift Card can help to build a strong Downtown core:
“Dependable Vacuum is a one-stop shop for all vacuuming needs including sales, repairs and service. The new Gift Card enables Brockville’s downtown businesses to offer shoppers a vast choice of locations in which to spend their purchasing dollars. Supporting local businesses has many rewards, including service, expertise and knowledge and we look forward to seeing customers coming into our store to spend their Gift Cards.”
The Downtown Brockville Gift Card is available to buy now online and in person at the Downtown Brockville (BIA) office on Market Street West, from $5-$500.
The technology for the Downtown Brockville Gift Card is provided by fintech Miconex in association with international payments technology solutions provider EML Payments. Miconex operates its Downtown Gift Card concept across Canada, including in Peterborough, London, Sudbury, Saint John, Burlington, Waterloo and Winnipeg.
The Downtown Brockville Gift Card is issued by Peoples Trust Company. Card funds are not insured by the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) or any other government deposit insurer or agency.
