Supporting local in Brampton just got easier as Downtown Dollars is upgraded to a modern Gift Card system.
The Discover Downtown Brampton Gift Card can be spent with multiple downtown businesses, including restaurants, stores, health and wellbeing services, and arts/cultural venues.
Gift Cards can be purchased online with delivery direct to the recipient, or in person from the BIA Office on Queen Street West.
The Downtown Brampton Business Improvement Association (BIA) is behind the new Gift Card system which is designed to make life easier for downtown businesses and for customers and organizations that buy the card.
Suzy Godefroy, Executive Director at Brampton Business Improvement Association (BIA) said:
“The Downtown Brampton BIA is excited to launch the Discover Downtown Gift Card. Our Downtown Brampton Dollar program was a success with over $50,000 of paper vouchers purchased since the spring of 2020. However, the paper dollars were also easily lost, customers weren’t able to get change, and they were very time consuming for businesses to redeem. Our new, modern Gift Card is easier for everyone. It fits into a wallet like a regular Gift Card, customers can use it across participating businesses with the balance automatically updated, and businesses get paid quickly.”
Carrie Percival, Chair of Downtown Brampton BIA adds:
“Many organizations used Downtown Dollars for their employees. The ability to purchase online means the new Discover Downtown Brampton Gift Card will be an easier way for organizations to reward their staff. And with many new businesses signed up to accept the Gift Card, there’s even more choice on offer too. In Brampton, there is something for everyone, and the new Discover Downtown Brampton Gift Card is a way that we can showcase everything we have to offer Downtown.”
BACI, the gift boutique and complex in Downtown Brampton hosting an art gallery, photographic studio and espresso bar, used to accept Downtown Dollars and will now accept the new Discover Downtown Brampton Gift Card. Owner Grettel Comas said:
“In our complex, we loved accepting Downtown Dollars from customers but to receive payment, we had to fill in a form and wait for the money to come through. With the new Gift Card, it will be much easier as a retailer to get the funds. Customers will also be more comfortable with it because it’s similar to the regular payment cards they’re used to, and so they will value it more compared with the Downtown Dollars paper money.
“People in Brampton love to shop local and I think the Discover Downtown Brampton Gift Card can be a beautiful gift to most anyone. It can also bring new faces to the heart of Downtown, and serve as a way for corporations to reward their associates by giving the Gift Card as a token of appreciation, supporting local businesses at the same time.”
Another business where the Discover Downtown Brampton Gift Card can be spent is Hair Lab & Co on George Street. Co-owner Ricky Viveiros said:
“Brampton is at a pivotal moment of change as it progresses on its journey towards urbanization and the Gift Card supports that. It’s almost like the BIA is creating an outdoor mall space; you can purchase a Gift Card and spend it with participating businesses right across the downtown core. Because the Discover Downtown Brampton Gift Card can be spent with lots of different businesses, it encourages collaboration.
“Hair Lab opened as a business before Covid and the Gift Card will help as we continue to grow our business, encouraging people to Brampton and putting us on the map. With a Gift Card in your hand, you’re more likely to try out a new product or experience, and possibly become a regular customer of that business.”
Dolcezza Cakes also accepts the new Discover Downtown Brampton Gift Card. Owner Pragati Karnik said:
“I took over Dolcezza Cakes in 2021. We sell customized cakes, cake pops and custom cupcakes, all made fresh and incorporating the latest trends in cake making. We used to accept Downtown Dollars and now we’re looking forward to accepting the new Discover Downtown Brampton Gift Card.
“I think the Gift Card will be a great gift and will also be useful for people wanting to budget because they can put a set amount on the Gift Card. Brampton is growing and the Gift Card really will help people to discover new businesses, with the benefit spread out right across the downtown core.”
The Discover Downtown Brampton Gift Card is issued by Peoples Trust Company. Card funds are not insured by the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) or any other government deposit insurer or agency. Funds do not expire, non-reloadable and no cash access.
