Calgarians now have an easy way to shop local as a new Gift Card launches for the city. The Downtown Calgary Gift Card can be used at participating businesses downtown, including retail, hospitality, and arts/culture.
Calgary Downtown Association (CDA) is behind the new Gift Card which it hopes will stimulate the economy by encouraging Calgarians to explore local and give organizations a local option for employee rewards and incentives.
Mark Garner, Executive Director at CDA said:
“From its vibrant food scene to its thriving arts and cultural venues, downtown Calgary has it all. The new Gift Card gives Calgarians the chance to be a tourist in their own city, and really experience all we have to offer here.”
Mark adds: “In Calgary, the shop local ethos is strong and that is coupled with a business community which is highly motivated to make downtown even more vital. With the holidays approaching, the Downtown Calgary Gift Card is a way that employers can demonstrate their support for Calgary and give their staff a gift of local choice.”
A business set to accept the Downtown Calgary Gift Card is Café Alchemist. Owner Meysam Ovaici said:

John Fluevog Shoes Calgary is also part of the new Gift Card. Lauren Brown, Calgary Community Lead said:
“Who doesn’t love a Gift Card that can be used at multiple locations? The Downtown Calgary Gift Card is going to be so great for businesses in the core! Encouraging people to visit some of the amazing and local stores is going to help so many smaller businesses. Coming in at a time when things are getting harder is just the boost downtown Calgary needs.”
The technology for the Downtown Calgary Gift Card is provided by fintech Miconex in association with international payments technology solutions provider EML Payments. Miconex operates its Downtown Gift Card concept across Canada.
The Downtown Calgary Gift Card is issued by Peoples Trust Company. Card funds are not insured by the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) or any other government deposit insurer or agency.
